At Northern Rivers Psychology, we have experienced psychologists on our team, including clinical psychologists. Our practitioners are dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based psychological services to the Northern Rivers community.

Registered Psychologist
Alex McCord is a registered psychologist and board-approved supervisor, and a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of New England. She provides diagnostic assessment and treatment to adolescents, adults and seniors. She holds practice certificates in disaster relief and services for older adults, and is an ANZAED credentialed eating disorder clinician. Alex uses a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. Alex treats individuals with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, chronic pain, carers of individuals with neurocognitive impairment, psychosis syndromes, adult eating disorders, PTSD, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, gender dysphoria and complex trauma.
Alex’s undergraduate training was completed in New York City, with H1 honours and masters qualification in Australia after settling in the Northern Rivers with her family. She divides her time between this practice and public health. Alex accepts Medicare mental health care plans, DVA, NDIS and Healthy Minds/Head to Health.
Clinical Psychologist
Jacki Elphinstone is a clinical psychologist and brings over 35 years of experience incounselling and psychological treatment. She utilises a client centred integrative approach drawing on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal skills, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills, Mindfulness skills, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma, Hakomi Professional Skills, experiential and action methods.
Jacki draws on therapeutic skills grounded in mindfulness, compassion and emotional intelligence. She works with adults, individuals, and couples across a broad range of issues including trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, pain, health crises, relationship conflict and adjustment to change. Times of emotional pain and psychological crisis can present us with the opportunity and motivation for growth and deeper self-discovery as we discover strengths and resources, develop new skills, achieve more helpful views and perspectives on life experiences and gain a deeper appreciation of meaning and purpose.
Jacki accepts Medicare mental health care plans, DVA, NDIS, Healthy Minds/Head to Health, NSW WorkCover and NSW Victims of Crimes funding. She holds a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Honours 1) degree in Psychology from Latrobe University, Victoria; and a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Australian National University, Canberra, ACT in 1988.
